The Vision Support Program (VSP) has been in effect for over 21 years assisting Madigan patients in need of eyeglasses. For many years the program was administered by the Army Public Health Nursing Service at Madigan and funded through the Madigan Foundation.
In late 2014 The Madigan Ophthalmology and Optometry Services in partnership with The Madigan Foundation revitalized the VSP to assist military dependents who are in need of eyeglasses.
Patients identified through the Optometry, Pediatric Optometry, Ophthalmology or civilian optometry clinics as requiring eyeglasses may qualify for assistance through the VSP.
We recognize that there are many families needing eyeglasses that may not have sufficient funds to cover the cost of needed eyewear. Patients and family members referred to the VSP may qualify for financial assistance in an amount sufficient to cover most or all of the cost of necessary eyeglasses.
During the 2014 calendar year there were 39 families served by the VSP. In 2015 the program underwent some operational changes that led to an increased level of support during 2016. During the months of January – September the Foundation provided eyeglasses to 61 individuals in the amount of $13,471.
With the generous support of donations from individuals, CFC, and corporations the VSP will continue to provide much needed eyeglasses to those with the greatest need.
