Jenevie Llanes

LTC (Ret) Jenevie Llanes joined the Madigan Foundation in 2006. She wanted to learn more about the organization, especially since they assisted in funding medical equipment for a few of her patients, who were unable to purchase due to limited income, or items were not covered by federal funds.

She joined the US Army after graduating from Aurora University, Aurora, IL, with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1987. Her first duty station was William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC), El Paso, TX, where she worked as a Clinical Staff Nurse on the General Surgery Ward. She attended the Critical Care Nurse Course at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO, and, upon completion, was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at WBAMC. For the majority of her military career, she worked in the ICUs as a Clinical Staff Nurse at the assigned medical centers - WBAMC (El Paso, TX), Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (Landstuhl, Germany), 212th MASH (Zagreb, Croatia in support of UNPROFOR), Madigan Army Medical Center (Ft. Lewis, WA), 18th MASH (Ft. Lewis, WA), 6250th US Army Hospital (Ft. Lewis, WA) - and reached the positions of Head Nurse and Evening/Night Supervisor.

In 2001, she left active duty after the birth of her son, but continued her military career in the US Army Reserves. She retired from the Army in 2008, after 21 years of service – 13 on active duty, 8 in the reserves.

LTC (Ret) Jenevie Llanes comments, "I feel that my time in the military was invaluable - it provided great professional opportunities and wonderful travel experiences! I have worked with many amazing colleagues from the different branches, trained with international medical teams, and cared for patients young and old, active military, retired, and their families. I feel blessed to have met and cared for veterans who fought in previous wars and conflicts. I am now in a position to ensure that we continue to care for our military members, their families and our retirees. I believe in the mission of the Madigan Foundation and would like to see us grow our programs, partner with organizations to serve our military, and continue our community relationships.

 "I am able to volunteer with the Madigan Foundation, St. Michael Parish (Olympia) and at my son’s school, Bellarmine Preparatory School, because of the strong support of my husband, COL Mark Torres, MD, and our 15-year-old son. We are an outdoor family – summers and fall are spent camping, hiking, backpacking; winter/early spring are spent on the slopes skiing/snowboarding."
