The Foundation also welcomes donations in memory of individuals. Honoring a loved one through a charitable gift to Madigan Army Medical Center pays tribute to a special person, and at the same time contributes to the health of the community. Question: How Will My Memorial Gift be Used?
Answer: 100% of your memorial gift will be used specifically for the purpose you designate whether it be for a favorite program or service.

Question: How Are Memorial Gifts Recognized?
Answer: The Foundation sends a receipt to each person who gives a memorial gift. The Foundation then notifies the family of the memorial gift and of the names of all those who helped remember their loved one. A memorial plaque is displayed in the medical mall at Madigan Army Medical Center to honor those whose family and friends have given a memorial gift to the foundation.

Question: How Should Friends and Relatives Be Notified About Memorial Gifts?
Answer: The newspaper or other notice should contain language similar to the following:

Memorial Gifts to the Col. Patrick S. Madigan, M.D., Foundation, PO Box 99883, Lakewood, WA 98496 for (memorial objective); or In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Col. Patrick S. Madigan, M.D., Foundation, PO Box 99883, Lakewood, WA 98496 for (memorial objective).

Question: What Kinds of Gifts Can Be Made In Memory?
Answer: Gifts of cash are the most popular method of memorial giving. In addition, memorial gifts also may be funded by gifts of appreciated assets such as stocks and mutual funds. The donor of appreciated assets not only receives a tax deduction but also avoids capital gains tax on qualified assets. Gifts of real estate or other assets also may be used.

Question: How Can I Set Up A Perpetual Memorial Gift?
Answer: Gifts totaling $10,000 or more can be used to establish an endowment. The gift asset of an endowment is perpetually invested and only the earnings on the asset are used to support the program or fund in memory of your loved one.
